Have you ever heard of the book Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner?  Levitt was the recent winner of the John Bates Clark award for the best economist under the age of 40.

Do you know what I love about the writing of Steven Levitt?  Levitt has a knack for getting below the surface.  Jesus did this all the time.  People came to Jesus asking one question or making a request but wanting another.  Jesus saw past the symptom and saw the root need located in their heart.  The results were often a life completely changed.

Churches that settle for the surface are not authentic.  People who settle for the surface miss out on some of the greatest relationships this side of heaven.
